Despite being exhausted after our long haul flight from Australia we were very excited to arrive in Nice, France. Meeting us at the airport was a dear friend Su. Currently living in Juan les Pins, Antibes, Su, Joseph & their daughter Stella welcomed us to France with an incredible dinner on their terrace. Also joining “the French reunion” was my niece Peta & her boyfriend Tim. They have been travelling Europe for months so it was wonderful to have some family time. And a home cooked meal with some Aussie touches.
Finally I got to try some of the Coeur de Boeuf or French oxheart tomatoes I have been coveting since seeing them on Su’s blog The Blue Coast. Delicious. And perfect with soft mozzarella. We also feasted on local Moules & plenty of French wine.
It seemed completely surreal to wake up the next morning in Juan les Pins and to be diving into the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Being the end of the summer season the beach was still busy but not completely packed. The locals were just happily enjoying their Saturday morning on the beach.
Late afternoon we headed to Nice for a stroll along the waterfront – where we spotted this row of shiny Vespas.
Then it was a climb up to Castle Hill to enjoy the lovely views up and down the coast and across Nice.
We finished with an early dinner in the beautiful old town. I ordered a local speciality, the Salad Nicoise. Tres bon!
